my thoughts and evaluation on myself

As i was not there for the last session due to family matters i will write my own self reflection.
looking back on the course at the very start i would say that i was a good and reliant teacher knowing alot of teaching techniques and stratagies. I thought i was good really, Now at the end of the course i have changed my views alot. i learnt new ideas.it could be from other collegues or from people on a tuesday night(man was i stale)in all i believe i have grown as a teacher and developed new ideas. i like to take risks and try new styles for my students. on this course i also learnt about blogs wikis and e portfolios something i will diffently get my students to develop and record on in the future.
what does the future hold we dont know but we as educators can help develop the future buy learning ourselves and trying new ideas.

Is the 80/20 rule appropriate for all courses
a question that i am unable to answer at this stage.

thanks to all those that have helped me on my travel into technology and to those that have become friends

evaluation

How we do it

Designing the Learning for a Particular Purpose and Audience.

I have samples of two lessons that were designed for the level three and four students by the Construction group.

Construction: Build set up (see plan diagram)

Learning Outcomes: To be able to set up profiles for a simple building.

Level 4 students (had some prior learning L3)

Equipment (resources) – Tape, pegs, string line, tool kit, dumpy level, sledgehammer, dazzle, timber (profile), nails 3 and 4 inch

1. Hand out plan and site plan

2. Locate 4 corners of the building and dazzle them

3. Put profile around all corners, 500m away from corner

4. Given height using dumpy level Get FFL height

5. Nail on batter boards on inside of pegs

6. Get 2 parallel longitudinal lines above the dazzle peg in ground

7. Locate center line between 2 parallel lines put peg in

8. Using he geometry drawn from a previous lesson locate one end points

9. Run string lines to batter boards and get parallel lines for other end

10. Check all measurements are correct. Check for square using diagonal

11. Pack up and dismantle

Feedback, Self-evaluation, Reflections

Construction: Lesson on Area;

Students L2-L3

Learning Outcomes: students will be able to:

• Calculate area of a range of simple shapes

• Understand what area is and as it relates to building industry $cost Profit or Loss

Activities involved:

• Get students to draw on w/board 1m square

• Prior knowledge

• Estimation of meters  step them out

• Measure L and W of classroom and get area (tools required = measuring tape; resources = calculator/ruler)

• Introduce

evaluation on wikis

Evaluation of the Trial wiki, in terms of our strength and weaknesses.

• Ability to learn new technologies something i have found great
• Sharing of knowledge via the wiki.
• Interaction between the staff and the freedom to make any comments.
• Received the email messages from the wiki notifying of updated comments.

Discussion centred on the following comment:
“It is easier to encounter new technologies as learners rather encounter new technologies as teachers"

students need to take this opportunity and use it and run with it what a chance they have been given

Pros

i believe that the students will ehjoy it and if it is part of the requirements then they will have to run with it. what better way to keep intouch with your friends class mates on what they are doing or thinking without txting all the time

Cons

•students need internet acces and not all have that, also with the younger students it will come down to thier commitment or lack off(laziness)
in older student they might not have the knowledge to use such tool and also find it very boring

Mature students who are have difficulty learning new technologies should be paired with the younger students in

hi
well im back on the blog. what a year it has been and i will be the first to say that this blended learning that we are doing does work to a certain point. i find that with the carpentry students we get it is hard for them to try and gather information and speak in front of the class but i believe if i introduce it slowly like i have been doing then it will develop them and me. i believe that we could also be setting students up to fail doing this as well we will watch and see what happens in the futre. AFTER ALL THIS IS A NEW CONCEPT

how do you learn?

Do you ever wonder why some people are known as "straight A students" while other people struggle in school - even though they're smart?

Do you know people who didn't finish high school, and have found great success in their careers?

People learn in different ways. And no one has a better learning style than anyone else. Some experts say there are as many as seven different learning styles; but it's easier to narrow it down to three types of learning . . . we'll call them:

Listening learners
Seeing learners
Touch / experience learners

Most people combine the styles of learning

Problem:
You need to paint a room.
How much paint and what supplies do you need?

Listening Learners might:
Call a painter, a friend, or paint store, and ask them for instructions before starting. Might attend a course on painting at the paint store.

Seeing Learners might:
Look online for answers, read several websites. Go to a bookstore and find books and magazines about home improvement and painting. Go to the paint store and read the back of paint cans. Watch a course at the paint store.

Experience Learners might:
Go buy a can of paint, a brush, and start painting. If there's not enough paint or you have the wrong brush, you just buy more. Eventually you learn how much paint and what supplies are required.

i found this when i was searching the web and thought it was very interesting

it has been a while since i posted a blog but in this time i have reflected on how my teaching has gone since the start of this course. in fact it hasnt changed that much in as i am still up front and doing majority of the teaching.WHY IS THAT YOU ASK ? well it comes down to our students most are lower end in numeracy and literacy so we have to go back to basic. then again the times that i have got them to learn and ask me question i have been shocked at the quality and the number of important questions they ask. is that down to me encouraging them or is it down to the different techniques i have done in my learning. i put it down to both.
i did dive with them to day and i will be the first to say what a bloody brilliant idea that is they came up with so much information and ask some real indepth serious question that i wish i had a video to tape that session.well must go and see what other techniques i can come up with.
